You won't believe this one.....................................

When I went in to tell my youngest I was heading out for a run earlier this afternoon (my first since Saturday), she ask me to stretch her hamstrings. I stood on the bed with her to get good leverage and when I took an adjusting step I caught mt heel on the railing, fell backwards, caught myself with my hands, and felt my left wrist break.

Drove myself to urgent care, drove home with a splint and can't see an ortho until next week, but yes, it's broken.

Good news...I'm right handed, and I'm already thinking up ways to cross train to keep up my strength base. I might be running my marathon in cast, but I AM RUNNING IT.

oh nooo.. you gotta be kidding me! I was just about to email you then I thought, better check the blog!
And you are still running the marathon? With a cast ? I have such admiration for you, you have no idea.
I broke my left wrist when I was 9 or 10 and I remember it distinctly (I fell of a swing on the playground). See, one more thing we have in common :)
Lots of hugs and best wishes from across the pond.

That is the plan, and I am clinging to it with every fiber of my being.

How long were you casted? I won't really know anything until I talk with the orthopod next week. From my PT days I remember the doc I will be seeing is the cutest one in the practice so there is that silver lining as well.

Just so you know I am not to be admired all that much, I have to say that typing with one hand sucks! BIG TIME!

I think I had a cast for about 5 weeks, but I can't be sure. It depends which bones exactly are broken. I had one of the bones broken clean, the other shattered. To add to that we only went to the docs about 24 hours later, so the bones had started growing back together, but not aligned. So they had to break them again! I had full anesthesia for that!
The great thing is that you can see the silver lining in almost everything!

Oh My - I cannot believe this Patty. I am thinking that if you tell them how long you have been working up to this, you might be able to have them remove it for the day even if it isn't quite ready, then even get it put back on. Just a thought.

I hope you aren't in too much pain. I haven't broken anything so I don't know what it is like. I guess this is just another excuse for not stretching. :)

Is there anything I can do for you? I will definitely be sending *healing vibes* your way. Take care of yourself.

Oh no! I hope you heal quickly! Running with that thing for the marathon will, I'm sure, not be fun but I know I'd do the exact same thing. You've worked so hard for so long, nothing like a few broken bones gonna stand in your way =) Take care!

Thanks Kate,

It is great to have people that really understand the why behind me running with broken bones. Most people in my world don't get why I want to do a marathon, let alone STILL do it injured.
